As previously revealed, NBA 2K23 will feature the return of The Jordan Challenge. For those of you too young to remember, this was a groundbreaking mode pioneered in NBA 2K11 that allowed fans to relive some of the most memorable moments of Michael Jordan’s illustrious career.
With The Jordan Challenge returning in NBA 2K23, an entirely new generation of NBA fans will be able to experience Michael Jordan’s storied career. The Jordan Challenge will feature 15 unique games beginning with his time at the University of North Carolina and culminating with his sixth and final championship with the Chicago Bulls.
Presentation is going to be a big part of the Jordan Challenge. Each game will feature a special pre-game interview with someone who was a part of the special moment, including Marv Albert (courtside commentator for The Shrug game), Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (opponent in 1988 All-Star game in Chicago), Dennis Rodman (opponent in the Bad Boys game), Phil Jackson (head coach in The Last Dance game), and more.
Additionally, you’ll be playing each game as if they were broadcast originally during the 1980s and 1990s with a unique video filter system that re-creates the television experience. There will also be era-specific broadcast elements such as the simplistic design and big block letters of 1982.
The authenticity of the era will expand beyond the broadcast and to the court itself where you’ll experience the much more physical style of play from the 80s and 90s. 2K has gone ahead and tweaked the rules to represent the period of time, including the Pistons’ famous ‘Jordan Rules’.
If you’re a fan of the NBA and never got a chance to see Michael Jordan play beyond old highlights and YouTube clips, this is going to be an amazing experience. Check out the video below for a quick look at what to expect from NBA 2K23’s The Jordan Challenge.
The Jordan Challenge game mode will be playable in NBA 2K23 on both new gen and current gen. The game is set to launch for PS5, Xbox Series X|S as well as PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC on September 9, 2022.
