Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — It takes a lot to take care of your car. This is something that every car owner knows. But car maintenance is not just about inspecting for scratches or bumps after a rough day on the road. It’s also about how things are under the hood, ensuring a smooth performance to get you through your day-to-day activities.

It takes a village to keep your beloved car going, so it’s all about making sure these parts work well with each other so you’re safe out there on the road.

Car maintenance checklists can range from checking your air filter and tire depth, to seasonal needs such as changing tires and checking coolant levels. There are also maintenance checks that you can do on your own.

One essential element to help you take care of your engine is a good engine oil like Caltex Delo, which has helped take care of many vehicles across the country over the years. As far as motor oils go, Caltex DELO with ISOSYN Technology is a quality choice as it combines premium base oils with high-performance additives to give you the bang for your buck.

We asked four car owners about their relationship with their cars, from the things that they frequently check to how handy they are with their vehicles.

I wouldn't say I'm handy, but definitely I've learned something [about car maintenance] throughout the years because I have to even if I'm not very interested in cars. Since it's something I have to use often.

Regular maintenance every six months and when the odometer reaches certain distances as well as cleaning it religiously are some of the most important things when it comes to taking care of my car. It's how my dad takes care of his cars and he always gets comments that his cars don't seem like they're years old when people get in them. That's also the only extent of my car knowledge.

I am from Don Bosco Makati and chose automotive technology as my mandatory technological specialization there, so I have some knowledge about car maintenance. However, as I am busy with work and my social life, my dad and I prefer to have the car checked by my family’s trusted mechanics, who have been fixing our cars for the last 10 years.

Besides being on top of its routine maintenance, such as oil change and brake pad replacement, I personally listen to my car every day. I know the exact “feel” of my car when it’s at its 100%. From its ignition to its acceleration, a responsible car owner should be aware of his/her car’s health.

The engine is always what I check the most, especially because it contains so many consumables that need to be refilled. Car components that are prone to wear and tear are also a priority, such as its tires, belts, and brake pads.

Not a car person but by order: engine, aircon, then radio. If I bought a new car I’d take care of it like my firstborn child, but the cars I drive are 5 to 10 years old, so the care level is very low. Dad taught me just the essentials if things go wrong — how to change tires, what to do if the battery dies, etc.

Being handy with my car is something I had to learn along the way. The most important thing is to take care of the engine and brakes to maximize the performance of the car and to ensure the safety of the passengers.

I’m not really that handy but I can change a tire. Taking care of my car was a skill that wasn’t natural to me. I had to learn it over the years of being a car owner. I usually have the oil, wheels, brakes, and aircon checked frequently. I try to have my car checked at least every six months for maintenance and if there’s anything that needs to be fixed or changed.

Preventive maintenance is truly the key to prolong a car’s life. Since the methods to keep your vehicle at its 100 percent may be pricey in the long run, it’s also very important to choose quality products that do the job well. This is especially true with motor oil — one of the most important things on every person’s car maintenance checklist.
